UFL To NFL Rundown: Week Seven Action

This weekend brought some impressive performances from former spring football stars now making waves in the NFL, despite a slower week for some athletes. The Dallas Cowboys were on a bye, keeping KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey off the field, while Micah Abernathy of the Falcons remained on injured reserve, sidelined for a significant time. However, it was players like Jake Bates who took the spotlight. Known for his legacy with the Michigan Panthers, Bates hit a critical 44-yard field goal that secured the game for Detroit. His precision in scoring seven points on XP attempts led the Lions to a tight 31-29 victory over Minnesota, continuing the momentum he built during his UFL season.

In another standout performance, Daniel Whelan, the DC Defenders punter, shone in Green Bay’s win. He executed five punts for an impressive 284 yards, with a long punt of 66 yards, showcasing his skills as a strong specialist. Whelan’s consistent excellence over the past two seasons for the Packers reflects his smooth transition from the UFL. His 56.8-yard gross average placed him second only to Roy McKay’s historic 61.6-yard average back in 1945 against the Chicago Cardinals, as pointed out by Aaron Nagler.

Meanwhile, LaBryan Ray, formerly of the Philadelphia Stars, contributed with four tackles for the Panthers, although his team fell to the Commanders in a tough 40-7 loss on Sunday. As the season continues, it’s clear that these UFL players are making their mark in the NFL, proving that the talent coming from the USFL and XFL is ready to compete at the highest level.
