Pita Taumoepenu & Yasir Durant Re-Sign UFL Contracts

On Friday, the UFL saw two more players, DE Pita Taumoepenu and OL Yasir Durant, re-sign their contracts for the 2025 season. Pita Taumoepenu, returning to the St. Louis Battlehawks, and Yasir Durant, sticking with the DC Defenders, have both agreed to terms with their respective teams. This is exciting news for both organizations as they build toward the upcoming season.

Pita Taumoepenu’s Role with St. Louis Battlehawks

Pita Taumoepenu, who has been regarded as one of spring football’s best players over the past few years, made a splash in his XFL debut with the Vegas Vipers in 2023. He had a remarkable season, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors with 26 tackles, eight TFL’s, and 7.5 sacks to his name. Despite a brief NFL stint with the Jets, he eventually chose to join the St. Louis Battlehawks, where he showcased his defensive talent, posting solid numbers such as 20 tackles, five TFL’s, and five sacks in 2024. His ability to draw double teams and remain a consistent force on the defensive line makes him a valuable asset.

Yasir Durant’s Impact on DC Defenders

Meanwhile, Yasir Durant was an underrated addition to the DC Defenders in 2024. His versatility was on full display as he moved between different positions due to the injuries on the O-Line. Whether playing at LG, RT, or LT, Durant proved his value by starting every single game and earning a strong 63.8 Offensive Grade along with an impressive 86.7 Pass Blocking Grade. At 6’7” and 330 lbs., his big frame and athleticism helped him excel, committing only two penalties throughout the season, and he didn’t receive any in the last six games. His re-signing ensures that the Defenders have a solid presence on their offensive line heading into the future.
